Canal Street

Canal Street is one of the very finest festivals in Norway, with musical roots in both jazz and blues. The festival has been arranged for 21 years in a row. One of the festival hallmarks is the use of different special venues, where uniqueness and experience are merged with musical encounters.

About Canal Street

People, music, magic: lighthouse jazz on the island of Lille Torungen, swimming blues & splashing jazz in the outport of Merdø, bohemian jazz at the ferry place of Kolbjørnsvik and feelings at the filling at the sanitation facilities at Heftingdalen are some examples of this.

Location, culture and history
A festival like this, with both jazz and blues as a base, gives us unique possibilities to show the different musical expressions in the specter between two genres which are closely linked historically.

By using maritime environments and the unique venues and locations Arendal has to offer, we want to create an comprehensive experience where location, culture and history makes forceful surroundings around musical encounters between artists and audience.

Canal Street's programme strategy is to offer the best of the Norwegian music; the new exciting, but also the traditional expression within the genres. We have throughout the years showcased many artists from our neighbouring Scandinavian countries, and from 2006 we have also been able to offer major international artists.
