Welcome to Canal Street 2010!

Lighthouseazz at Torungen lighthouse
Canal Street is Norway’s biggest Jazz and Blues festival arranged again this year for the 14th consecutive time. One of the festival’s trademarks is its use of special and unusual arenas, which compliment and contribute to the complete musical experience.

Fyrjazz (Lighthouse Jazz) at the Lille Torungen lighthouse, Bathing Blues and Splash Jazz in the Bay of Merdø, Bohemian Jazz at the Ferry place in Kolbjørnsvik and “Jazz in the Dumpster“ at Heftingsdalen refuse/recycling site are just some examples.

The place, culture and history

One of the few festivals in Norway combining Jazz and Blues allows us to show different musical styles from the spectrum of the two, historically closely-related genres.

The ocean environment and unusual arenas Arendal has to offer, provide an opportunity to give you a holistic experience where place, culture and history frame the musical experience between artist and audience.

Canal Street’s aim is to give you the best Norway has to offer, new and exciting artists, as well as traditional Jazz and Blues. Over the years, we have gathered many artists from our Scandinavian neighours, and big, international performers since 2006.

Committed festival workers

The festival could not take place without a large group of volunteers. Over the years, Canal Street has built up a great organizing committee, whose members do a fantastic job every year. This year more than 500 people are working on different tasks before, during and after the festival.

We use volunteers for many different types of jobs, such as ticket sales, security, stage, sound and light technicians, artist contacts, PR, marketing etc. Tasks are divided among different teams working together.
