Environmental profile
In 2006 Canal Street was awarded environmental certification as a Green arrangement by the Miljøfyrtårn organization.

Superior definition on Canal Streets environment direction:
- contribute to a sustainable development, although the festival over a short period of time puts a great deal of pressure on the local environment. Canal Street wishes to set an example to how each individual can decrease their strain on the environment and make sure that the total amount of greenhouse gases are reduced.

Our aim is to hold a festival with a public of 30000 people without damaging the environment and our surroundings, by either unacceptable levels of garbage or unnecessary climate damaging discharge. Our goal for 2008 is to be climate neutral through new dedicated initiatives together with purchase of climate quotas to cover the extra strain on the environment incurred by the public, when they attend the festival.
We also hope that our active engagement in environmental issues will influence our sponsors, partners and the public to engage in their own environmentally friendly activities for a common future. We would like to encourage all Canal Streets employees, suppliers, partners and sponsors, volunteers and guests to register themselves in order to compensate for their CO2 discharge. The money paid goes directly to a United Nations approved CO2 quota project in China to build plants to produce electricity from methane gas at rubbish sites.
Canal Street’s work to promote positive attitudes towards environmental issues and put these into practice began in 2006. This is now an important part of our annual strategic plan. With our ongoing process of environmental certification we have to stretch ourselves more as each year goes by in order improve on the previous years’ initiatives. A regular review of our initiatives in regard to the environment is of benefit to the whole Canal Street concept.
